Assumption University is the first International University in Thailand. The university is a nonprofit institution administered by the Brothers of St. Gabriel, a worldwide Catholic Religious Order.

The university is an international Community of scholars engaged in the pursuit of truth and knowledge, serving the human society, especially through the creative use of interdisciplinary approaches and cyber-technology. 

In addition to being accredited fully by the Ministry of University Affairs, Government of Thailand, it is also listed in the Handbook of Universities and other institutions of the International Association of Universities, Paris, France. The Assumption University welcomes students from other countries. In 2002 about 1,084 foreign students representing more than 53 countries have enrolled themselves.
