Trauma of women, children due to drug abuse discussed at BSSS seminar

A three-day seminar on drug abuse and prevention DAP under the banner of AAATMAN, a project granted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, was held at BSSS college. The project cell, Dept. of Social Work, BSSS college, Bhopal, organised the three-day seminar.
The seminar cum training program informed the participants about the various types of drugs and their consumption patterns. They were also briefed about the various programs and schemes of the government to mitigate the problem of addiction. After a brief introduction to the increasing trends of addiction in our country, the session focused on the various types of drugs and their sources of procurement and conception. The program covered a set of explanations on various levels of addiction and stages of impact in addictive individuals.
As per the agenda, the main focus of the whole module depicted the harmful impact of drug usage on a family, as a whole. The major point of discussion was the trauma and hardship faced by women and children due to the addiction of any family member. The seminar also covered various live sessions on counseling and assistance systems through NA demo sessions.
Through group activities the participants were introduced to specific skills needed to respond to the negative stimulus of drug menace. Mr. Francis Joseph, currently working for the Network of Asian People who Use Drugs (NAPUD), was the resource person of the program. Mr. Joseph is the program expert on drug abuse and has worked extensively in the field of drug addiction among HIV patients and people who inject drugs.
