Department of Computer Application

An Overview

The department of Computer Applications was stared in the academic year 1999 with the introduction of BCA course affiliated to Barkatullah University, Bhopal. PGDCA course was started in 2013 and M.Sc (Computer Science) in 2014. The department has well equipped three computer labs and ICT enabled classrooms, as well as qualified and experienced faculty members to cater to the requirements of the students. The department also runs a very active student’s club named “Cyber Club” which organizes co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for bringing out the hidden talents of students.

The UG and PG programmes run by the department are oriented towards building a brilliant career in Information Technology. The programmes focused on building application-based skills which include the creative and logical thinking skills. Students will also be updated of  industry best software practices and placement assistance.

Department conduct hackathons, and other co-curricular events to develop students’ leadership skills. In addition, there are various clubs within the institute where students may organise and participate in creative activities. Graduates will be qualified for roles such as Software Developer, Business Manager Development, Software Quality Analyst, Data Scientist, Software Developer, Software Engineer, Software Validation Engineer, Software Test Engineer, Software Configuration Manager and many more.

Objectives

The department aims to impart high quality education and prepare the young students to challenge the ever-demanding IT field. The main objectives of the department are: 

• To develop quality IT professionals by providing concept oriented subject knowledge supplemented with practical orientation. 
• To develop all round personality of the students by inculcating the values of sincerity, team spirit and work culture. 
• To provide comprehensive knowledge in various fields of computer science. 
• To facilitate the application of the fundamentals of computer science by the students to solve software-oriented computing problems. 

Programmes Offered

• Bachelor in Computer Applications (BCA) – It is a 3-year Under-Graduate programme. It is extended over six semesters. The course is designed to bridge the gap between IT industries and institutes by incorporating the latest developments into the curriculum.
• Master in Science (M.Sc.) – It is a 2-year Post-Graduate programmed. It is extended over four semesters. It aims to enhance the existing academic foundations with comprehensive understanding of the use and application of information technology for professional working in the software industry or related fields.
• Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) – It is a 1-year course having two semesters designed for graduate students who are seeking professional knowledge in computer applications and are keen to equip the students with requisite knowledge, skills and right attitude necessary for becoming efficient computer/IT Professionals

• BSSS JOURNAL OF COMPUTERS (BJOC) :

BSSS Journal of Computer is an online Journal published since 2009 with ISSN: 0975-7228. It is a Double Blind Peer Reviewed Open Access Journal which is Indexed through DOI, Cross Ref and Copyright Licensing under Creative Commons (CC).

• IT-MATTERS

It is a Bi-annual Departmental e-Magazine to empower the Faculty and Students to be creative and productive, thereby providing them a platform to showcase knowledge about the new technologies. It also gives glimpses of the various activities carried out in the department in an academic session and showcase student and faculty achievements.

Student Association/Clubs

In order to channelize the creativity and interest of students in an efficient manner, the department has three clubs

• Cyber Club : Since its inception the cyber club has been instrumental in spreading the upcoming technologies in the field of computer in and around BSSS student community. The Cyber Club arranges several extra-curricular and co-curricular activities such as Workshops, Exhibition, extempore, games, quizzes and various technical competitions and non-technical competitions etc. The club holds its Technical festival (Techno-Fest) every year involving students of other colleges of Bhopal. Over the years Techno-Fest has become a tradition in BSSS.
• Coder’s Club : Coder’s Club is a coding and technology related club under the Department of Computer Applications. It aims to make the students learn and excel in coding. Coder’s Club focuses on new technologies and computer languages and provides technical and practical knowledge to the students through Expert Sessions, Peer Learning and Technical Mentoring. It promotes a high standard of technical learning among students so that they can achieve their career objectives through innovative and practical learning methods.
• DSAC Club : DSAC is an international club associated with Ureka Education Group Oxford Science Park, Oxford, UK with offices in France and Dubai. The objective of DSAC club is to motivate students and prepare them for careers in the Data Science, Analytics and Cybersecurity. It provides hands- on skills and expert guidance to help students develop into world class professionals in this field. This club will also create career opportunities for students through its international certifications and on campus/virtual club activities.
