EXTENSION
PROGRAMMES |
The philosophy of the college emphasizes the need to connect with the real world. Authentic exposure and experience of the students is ensured through going beyond the curriculum, and reinforcing the learning process with active participation in extension activities. Contacts with Business organizations, NGOs and GOs have been a great source of learning and inspiration for the students. Guest Lectures by leading entrepreneurs, activities and awareness programs conducted by different NGOs serve to develop social responsibility and sensitivity amongst students. Our major extension programmes are:
- Childline - The College has been the nodal agency for Childline, a government of India project since 2000. This was the first such project in MP, and is now functioning in 66 cities in India. The BSSS works closely with several NGOs in the city and aims to build up a strong network among the government and non-government organizations to fight for the underprivileged and deprived children of the city.
- Social Awareness Programmes - As active members working towards speedy accomplishment of the goals of the NGOs, several students take part in Education that is oriented towards the adult population and also non-formal education for children through programmes like Balwadis and Aanganwadies. The college also participates in drives to promote health and hygiene related awareness. Successful efforts in this direction have been made by students through street plays and home visits in slum areas.
- Community Development - in collaboration with NGOs of Bhopal, the students of social work have helped form self help groups targeted at savings, internal loaning and other social activities. Every year the under graduate and post-graduate students of social work visit the central jail and interact with jail inmates. Constant efforts are made by the college to create awareness about drug addiction in the college and beyond. The college also works towards creating AIDS awareness. Besides some of our students have also been trained in Medical & Psychiatric Social work and work in collaboration with the Jawahar Lal Nehru Cancer hospital in the counseling and rehabilitation aspects of the hospital.
- Field work, Industrial visits and Rural camps are a regular part of the co- curricular activities of the college and reflect the ideology of making knowledge practically relevant.
