The Department of Education and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of The Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS), in association with the E&ICT Academy, IIT Guwahati, inaugurated a week-long Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Indian Knowledge System and Inclusive Education.” The programme is supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
The inaugural ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp, marking the formal commencement of the academic event. The occasion was graced by the Chief Guest, Prof. Alok Gardia, from the Department of Education, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), and Ms. Vartika Agrawal, Coordinator for the FDP from IIT Guwahati.
In her welcome address, Dr. Daman Deep Kaur warmly greeted the dignitaries and participants, emphasizing the FDP’s role in connecting India’s ancient wisdom traditions with modern inclusive education.
Dr. Gaurav Trivedi, representing E&ICT Academy, IIT Guwahati, joined the session virtually and highlighted the importance of technology-enabled learning in making education more inclusive and accessible.
Dr. Fr. John P. J., Principal of BSSS, in his address, reiterated the institution’s commitment to fostering holistic, value-based, and inclusive education. He appreciated the collaboration between BSSS and IIT Guwahati for creating a meaningful platform that bridges traditional and contemporary educational practices.
Enduring relevance of the IKS
Delivering the inaugural address, Prof. Alok Gardia underlined the enduring relevance of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in shaping ethical, reflective, and inclusive education. He urged educators to integrate indigenous pedagogies creatively into present-day classrooms to enhance learner engagement and cultural rootedness.
Sr. Rohini Jadav, Programme Coordinator, expressed that the FDP aims to empower educators.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Sheena Thomas, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, experts, and participants for their contributions and presence.
The five-day FDP will include interactive lectures, hands-on sessions, and case studies focusing on Indian knowledge systems, inclusive classroom practices, ICT integration, and research-based teaching innovations.
The inaugural session set an inspiring tone of collaboration, reflection, and shared learning to promote inclusivity through India’s timeless educational wisdom.
