The Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS) celebrated World Tourism Day 2026 – "Aagaz" on 28 September 2026 with a special Bhopal Metro Trail. The activity was organized by the World Tourism Day Committee in collaboration with the Department of Commerce. Its aim was to provide students and faculty members with a practical understanding of sustainable mobility (durable/eco-friendly transport), urban connectivity, smart transportation, and new dimensions of tourism.
The program was held under the leadership of BSSS Principal Dr. Fr. John P.J., Vice Principal Dr. Sr. Leema Jacob, and World Tourism Day Coordinator Dr. Sushma Tirkey. The Metro Trail commenced from the DRM Office Metro Station and concluded at the Subhash Nagar Metro Station. Students and faculty members of BSSS enthusiastically participated in this journey and enjoyed the wonderful experience of traveling across Bhopal's modern metro network.
For everyone, the Metro Trail was not just a ride; it served as an experiential learning opportunity. Students and faculty members observed the metro infrastructure, station amenities, passenger movement, digital ticketing system, security measures, and the operations of the urban mass-transit system. The journey gave participants an opportunity to explore, understand, and experience a new facet of Bhopal as an emerging smart and connected city.
The activity highlighted how public transportation and sustainable mobility contribute to responsible tourism and destination development. Students were encouraged to look beyond visiting traditional tourist spots and understand tourism as a broader experience that encompasses connectivity, technology, accessibility, sustainability, and urban infrastructure. The pleasant atmosphere during the journey added to the occasion as students and faculty shared their excitement, making the metro trail a memorable, educational, and enjoyable experience-based ride. The initiative also strengthened the sense of participation and unity within the BSSS community.
Speaking about this initiative, World Tourism Day Coordinator Dr. Sushma Tirkey emphasized the importance of experiential learning in tourism education. She noted that initiatives like the Metro Trail help bridge classroom concepts with real-world tourism infrastructure.
