Established in 1999 with the launch of the BCA programme affiliated to Barkatullah University, Bhopal, the Department of Computer Science & Application has emerged as a dynamic centre of excellence in IT education. With the introduction of PGDCA in 2013 and M.Sc. (Computer Science) in 2014, the department has consistently expanded its academic horizon to meet the evolving demands of the global IT industry. Equipped with five well-furnished computer laboratories and ICT-enabled smart classrooms, and supported by highly qualified and experienced faculty, the department provides a vibrant learning ecosystem that blends conceptual clarity with practical exposure. Guided by its vision of becoming a globally recognized institution fostering intellectual capability, professional competence and ethical values, and driven by its mission to promote knowledge creation, industry-academia collaboration, entrepreneurship, teamwork and lifelong learning, the department focuses on holistic student development. Our BCA course has been ranked consistently among the best Institutes in India by MDRA-IndiaToday. Regular hackathons, workshops, seminars and technical competitions nurture innovation, leadership and problem-solving skills, while active platforms such as the Cyber Club and Coder’s Club promote technical excellence through expert sessions, peer learning and the annual Techno-Fest. The department also publishes the ISSN-listed, double-blind peer-reviewed BSSS Journal of Computers (BJOC) and the Annual e-magazine IT-MATTERS, encouraging research and creative expression. With strong placement support, career guidance initiatives and industry-oriented training, graduates are well-prepared for diverse roles such as Software Developer, Software Engineer, Data Scientist, Software Quality Analyst, Software Test Engineer, Business Development Executive and other high-growth IT professions, making the department a hub of innovation, academic rigor and professional excellence.

Objectives

The department aims to impart high quality education and prepare the young students to challenge the ever-demanding IT field. The main objectives of the department are:

• To develop quality IT professionals by providing concept oriented subject knowledge supplemented with practical orientation. 
• To develop all round personality of the students by inculcating the values of sincerity, team spirit and work culture. 
• To provide comprehensive knowledge in various fields of computer science. 
• To facilitate the application of the fundamentals of computer science by the students to solve software-oriented computing problems.

Programmes

The Department of Computer Science & Application, at BSSS offers a comprehensive portfolio of Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Professional courses designed as per NEP 2020 to build strong academic foundations and industry-ready competencies in computing and emerging technologies. The three-year Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) programme bridges academia and industry through a curriculum integrating programming, databases, networking, web technologies and software development practices; the two-year M.Sc. (Computer Science) enhances advanced technical expertise, analytical depth and research aptitude for leadership roles in IT and academia; and the one-year Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) provides specialized professional knowledge for graduates seeking career advancement in the IT sector. Complementing these degree programmes, the department offers different skill-oriented certificate courses in MS-Office and Internet, Multimedia and Animation, Web Designing, Graphics Designing, Android Application Development, Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking, Essentials of Computer Programming, Introduction to Business Analytics, as well as Certificate and Diploma programmes in Digital Marketing. Together, these programmes emphasize application-based learning, logical and creative thinking, industry best practices and practical project exposure, ensuring that students graduate as competent, confident and future-ready professionals equipped to thrive in the fast-growing digital economy.
