An Overview

The Department of Humanities is the oldest department which came into existence with the inception of the esteemed institute in 1972. It offers a wide range of subjects under the common umbrella enabling the students to choose from a plethora of career options. Initially, subjects including Psychology, English Literature, Sociology, Economics and Social Work were introduced. Hereafter, Political Science came into effect in 1989, Philosophy and Public Administration in 2014 and History in 2018, respectively. Moreover, Mathematics as an optional subject was introduced in the session 2019-2020. The uniqueness of the Department lies in the fact that it strives to promote holistic development of the students by inculcating a spirit of inquest, discipline and adventure through dedicated academic and co-curricular activities.

The vision is to offer the best for the society by imparting high quality education and stimulate in the students a spirit of inquiry and desire and aid in gaining knowledge and skills that can enrich their lives in future.

Mission:

  • The Department’s interdisciplinary approaches make students aware of the connections between the humanities and other disciplines.

The Department offers a dynamism of discipline, relevant in congruence to the transcending world. At the Undergraduate level, the following courses are offered:

In a similar vein, the Department offers Political Science (Hons) and History (Hons), respectively.

Exclusive Publication

The Department of Humanities proudly acclaims the publication of ‘Anthropulse,’ an annual magazine curated as a collective effort to gauge the unabridged essence of the society. Channelling the incumbent transformations, the contributors have posed reflections that are true to the glory of an emerging India. Each edition equally imparts a creative framework posed with utmost honesty, authenticity, zeal and clarity.

The Humanities Club

The Humanities Club dedicatedly aims towards sensitizing young minds over burning issues and contemporary affairs of public importance. The club firmly believes that every individual has an unparalleled hint of excellence, and it must be realised in its absolute sense. Under the benign guidance of the faculty, the club consistently channels a myriad of open forum events, and opportunities like exposure visits to the heritage and administrative sites, debates and elocution, quizzes, exclusive workshops, and a series of seminars and webinars.

Exposure Beyond Classroom

The Department regularly organizes educational visits to provide practical exposure and experiential learning opportunities.

  • Local Governance Visits: Panchayats and State Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha).
  • Cultural and Heritage Exposure: Bhopal Darshan, Heritage Walks, visits to Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Sanchi Stupa, Dushyant Kumar Sangrahalaya, Manas Bhavan, Hindi Bhavan, the Tribal Museum, and Bhimbetka Rock Shelters for historical, cultural, and literary enrichment.
  • National Educational Tours: Academic trips to Jaipur and the Parliament House, New Delhi.
  • Social Awareness Visits: Visits to NGOs, tree plantation drives and community institutions.

The Department actively organizes Training Programmes, Workshops, National & International Seminar, Symposium, Panel Discussions to deliberate on contemporary global issues and enhance faculty competencies for professional growth.

The Department also organizes various curricular activities such as constituent assembly debates, extempore, elocution, quizzes, Case Marathon (a pan-India case study competition) and speeches to enhance students’ communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills. Additionally, students actively participate in Youth Parliament programmes every year, gaining valuable exposure to parliamentary procedures and democratic deliberation.

Defining Milestone

The Department rejoices in the terrific display of talents by the students in multihued fields. It has had the tradition of facilitating students for their academic performance, echoed through running trophies and shields.

Enthusiastic victory has been achieved in the Youth Parliament, organised by Pandit Kunjilal Rashtriya Sansadiya Vidyapeeth. Students have also gained an edge over debates, elocutions, and public speaking competitions at collegial and district levels, respectively.

Community engagement and upliftment has been realised through platforms, including National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme. Likewise, students have delivered youth delegations, through training camps and exchange programmes, globally. Sportsmanship spirit has also been mirrored through devoted parade representation at Republic Day in New Delhi. Moreover, inter-collegiate prominence has been proven through strategic sports excellence at various junctures.
