BSSS Faculty Member Presents Research at International Conference on Resilient Transport in Manchester, UK

Dr. Yashi Tiwari from the Department of Management, The Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS), successfully presented her research paper titled “Quantifying the Hidden Travel Cost of Public Transport: An Analysis of First and Last Mile Expenses in Jabalpur, India” at the international conference “Future Proofing Vital Networks”, organised by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), UK, in Manchester, United Kingdom. The conference was held from 23 to 25 September 2026 at The Deansgate, Manchester, with Dr. Tiwari presenting her research on 24 September 2026.

Following the acceptance of her research paper, Dr. Tiwari was invited to present her work at the international conference, providing an opportunity to share her research with an international audience of professionals, researchers, academics, and practitioners working in the field of resilient transport and infrastructure.

Her research paper was presented under Stream “Asset Assessment and Renewal,” which focused on contemporary approaches to assessing, maintaining, and renewing critical transport infrastructure. The presentation examined the often-overlooked financial burden associated with first- and last-mile travel in public transportation, with a specific focus on Jabalpur, India. The research highlights how expenses incurred in accessing and leaving public transport systems can constitute a significant component of the overall cost of public transport journeys.

The conference brought together experts and professionals from across the transport and infrastructure sector to deliberate on strategies for building resilient and future-ready networks. Dr. Tiwari’s participation provided an international platform for presenting an India-based research perspective on public transport accessibility, travel costs, urban mobility, and the broader challenges associated with resilient transportation systems.

The presentation also provided an opportunity for academic and professional exchange, enabling Dr. Tiwari to engage with contemporary international perspectives on transport infrastructure, cost effective public transport, asset management, resilience, and sustainable mobility. Her participation reflects the growing relevance of research from Indian cities in global discussions on the future of transportation and urban infrastructure.

The achievement reflects BSSS's continued emphasis on research, academic excellence, and international academic engagement. The support and encouragement extended by the BSSS Management and institutional leadership played an important role in facilitating Dr. Tiwari’s participation in this international academic forum. Such opportunities strengthen the institution’s commitment to promoting research that connects academic inquiry with contemporary societal and infrastructure challenges.

Dr. Tiwari’s participation at the ICE conference in Manchester marks a significant international exposure for the Department of Management and contributes to strengthening the visibility of BSSS research on global academic and professional platforms.
